"This is the people's House," said Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.). "This is not Pelosi's politiburo."
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Democrats adjourned the House, turned off the lights and killed the microphones, but Republicans are still on the floor talking gas prices.
Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and other GOP leaders opposed the motion to adjourn the House, arguing that Pelosi's refusal to schedule a vote allowing offshore drilling is hurting the American economy. They have refused to leave the floor after the adjournment motion passed at 11:23 a.m., and they are busy bashing Pelosi and her fellow Democrats for leaving town for the August recess.
You're not covering this, are you?" complained one senior Democratic aide. Another called the Republicans "morons" for staying on the floor.

How is your wallet doing these days, my fellow Michigan residents? When the Republicans are fighting to allow drilling here, the Democrats call them MORONS? While they high tailed it out of Washington, D.C. to take a fully paid 5 weeks of vacation? Remember all of this when you go vote this Tuesday, August 5, and start saying NO to any more taxation!
When you put a twenty dollar bill in your gas tank and you get 4 gallons of gas, remember who refuses to let us drill for our own oil. Remember that trillions have gone to Middle East countries that hate us. Remember Alberta, Canada, where they are drilling like there's no tomorrow and supplying high paying jobs, for some reason, it doesn't hurt the environment. It only hurts the environment if WE drill...uh huh! Makes you wonder who in Congress and in the EPA are getting money under the table from OPEC.
Remember that when the Democrats talk about alternative fuels, we don't have any right now that work. Remember when they talk about electric cars, that they will only go about 100 miles, and then they need to be charged. Have you looked at your electric bill lately? Imagine the cost added on to that bill for charging a couple of electric cars. And what do you do when it runs out on the road?
Remember when they talk about wind turbines and solar, that they haven't perfected those either. They cant even make a solar light for the back yard that works to light it.
Vote August 5, and vote NO on everything that raises our taxes. And vote for any GOP member that wants to drill, like Thad McCotter. He has my vote!
Drill here! Drill NOW! Pay less!
"A Vote That Would Make a Difference in People's Lives"
Who's to blame for our high gas prices? The oil companies? The Saudis? OPEC? The answer, unfortunately, is closer to home: The "No-We-Can't" Left in Congress.
Last Thursday, with oil at $124 a barrel, liberals on the Senate Appropriations committee voted to block environmentally sound development of oil shale in Colorado.
According to the Investors Business Daily there are an estimated 1 trillion barrels of oil trapped in shale in the U.S. and Canada. Retrieving just a tenth of it would quadruple our current oil reserves.
But the "No-We-Can't" Left in Congress -- as they're prone to do -- said no, and Americans will pay the price. Colorado Senator Wayne Allard (R) put it best when he said: "If we are really serious about reducing pain at the pump, this is a vote that would make a difference in people's lives."
